(Commons Cafe, formerly Culture Cafe) to invoke the memory of Lazarus Elnady, a con artist who roamed around Europe on his motorbike until he stopped by a public restroom in Freiburg im Breisgau and disappeared. C.C. is a subculture venue where attendees must never reveal their real identities but must create entirely fictitious ones. Therefore, creating an exhibition about a person who disappeared and whose identity is unknown became an opportunity for speculation and fabulation. By deciding to turn the public restroom into an exhibition space, smell became one of the main elements of the exhibition. Soap was made of oud, nard, and myrrh—incenses that were brought to the tomb of Jesus by his apostles when they discovered he was not there. Additionally, wooden tubes of relics, but solid, were displayed. One net holds a CRT TV, and the other contains buoyant foam surrounded by a life jacket. The sculpture relies on the tension that is felt but controlled, with two different types of foam forced together despite their opposing tendencies— one would float, and the other would not. Additionally, the image of water falling inside the TV suggests its descent as a weighted object, yet everything is kept in a perpetual state of balanced tension. It is cut to the size of a bed, with an Arduino machine programmed to imitate breathing. By using this industrial material without modification, there is an attempt to highlight its functional abilities and disabilities. A helmet, which is a box, carries a sound taken from Björk’s song “It’s Oh So Quiet” and a paper with a quote from Kafka’s short story “The Knock at the Manor Gate.” The song has been edited to only produce the imperative «hush,» a sound that is mixed with the sound of the Arduino machine. signs, a board game, advertising, and a reading corner. It is dominated by the Burrow Insurance Company, a company that materializes security and promotes its product in the form of a board game, exploiting all other addresses on the same street, which are: C.C. is a café where people go wearing different identities, inventing histories and experiences, and participating in collective actions of repairing objects, conceptions, and stories without claiming ownership or situating themselves within a power hierarchy. I.C.O. is an institution that offers a summer school consisting of three workshops. The institution intends for its summer school participants to develop, repair, and challenge their relationship between the body and whatever falls into our visual perception— the image. The first workshop deals with the body in the making of the image; the second workshop focuses on the body within the image; the third workshop handles the body in the reception of the image. We are interested in image gleaners and foragers, not image hunters or ethnographers. S.A.C.S. is the NGO that exists within the writings of the anonymous anarchist group TIQQUN. A study group has been created there to investigate violences in banal situations, comparing, classifying, and observing the already taken-for-granted apparatuses. The violences we examine surround us in dating apps and supermarkets, academia and scholarships, language and media—we compare them and untie the complex threads that hold them together. H.A. branches out from Avery Gordon’s Hawthorne Archive. With Gordon’s cooperation, Hydra Archive is the depot of attempts from the margins of society to pulverize the status quo into the raw material of utopia(s). mounted at head level on a wall, equipped with a smoke detector. When the audience smokes, the system within the space is triggered, initiating a playful sequence of signals, fire alarms, sounds, and lights. These elements create a chaotic, clumsy warning of danger, with variations in alarming sounds, high-pitched sirens, and randomized shifts in volume, tone, and rhythm. The result is a "festival of security." The concept reflects a constant state of fight-or-flight—a heightened responsiveness and sensitivity to living on the edge—simultaneously urgent, extreme, and paradoxically stimulating. It resonates with Walter Benjamin's story of the "Angel of History." The angel longs to react, to do something about the pile of debris before him, but he cannot spread his wings because a storm is blowing from the paradise called progress. This echoes a real event, captured on a witness's cell phone from a balcony on El Qasr Elainy Street on January 28, 2011. Below, masses of protesters are trying to make their way through the street toward Tahrir Square, the central gathering place for the destruction of the existing regime. A machine designed to disperse the protest operates normally, trying to restore order. In those fragments I am questioning the idea of home on a political and personal level inspired by a poem of Wadih Sa›adeh “How the swimmer will reach while the sea is drowning”. A room made out of paper with a curtain painted on it from the outside in black a slogan in Arabic from the protests during the revolution while the slogan is incomprehensible for the people inhabiting the place where I have installed the room it is still written on the paper walls from inside the room some hints about what it is. The hints are a word play with the synonyms of the word home in French as for example (Foyer/Noyer) (Maison/mais) (logis/lois/loi) (Pavillon/bâillon) sketched in colorful pencils Also, beside the door curtain we can find a Pendulous flag made of collage of different visual symbols of strength and excellency as it is used in different national flags as the sword, wild animals and stars. While inside the room we can find on the corner some pillows made out of cement and on the other corner four rocks written on them in Latin the word “Esse est percipi” which means “to be is to be perceived” and those rocks are collected from four different cities where I have done a performance writing on the rocks and hanging it from my neck and standing between the audience the rest of the time, beside the rocks there is the necklace I used and drawing on the wall like a manual. And a striped ceiling to let in the light. Two other artists joined the project, agreeing to work together for nothing. The three of us talked for three days about our obsessions, intentions, and current projects. We questioned whether we should try to find a point where our projects could converge or simply exist together. In the end, we decided that each of us would continue working on our individual obsessions, but that we would occupy this limited space together. Maybe it’s a performance. Maybe it’s just 30 minutes of our lives—and yours—live. You are invited to pass through with minimal preparation and maximum awareness of the present moment: an ongoing dialogue that starts nowhere and ends nowhere. We would like to share this experience as it is, as literally as possible. An open body, an ongoing process heading toward something still ambiguous and obscure. An unfinished project aiming for nothing. The invisible elements between us—the space, the heat, the air, the gravity—and, most importantly, what’s inside our minds, behind our presence. Through each of our obsessions and questions, we engage in an act of dialogue or reaction, breaking distances for a moment. When coincidence brings us together to share our thoughts, to find a form, to do something independently, transgressively, spontaneously, and abruptly.GesturesIn the course of our dialogue, Samuel Nashaat became absorbed in making a kite. After completing it, he attempted to make it fly, but it got stuck in a tree. He also tried to use a small keyboard, a gift from his 5th birthday, opening it up and experimenting with the electric circuit to produce sounds. Sohair Sharara focused on editing the recordings and videos of our conversations from the three-day workshop. Salina Abaza spent her time sketching feathers and filming. Later, she attached one of the feathers to her last personal object—something she had kept from Syria, where she grew up.
